While everyone was rightfully so applauding the astonishing riding efforts of boom apprentice Reece Jones after he landed 4 winners at Randwick, no-one stopped to think how Brenton Avdulla was feeling.
He would have been sick to the stomach given what the universe served up to him.
Avdulla, riding at the same meeting, had 9 rides on the card.
He rode 8 placings….5 of them ran 2nd!
And of those 5, 3 were beaten by a nose, the other pair by just half a length. Avdulla couldn’t buy a winner yet he rode every single of one them perfectly.
But, his luck was so off that even when he punched In The Congo right out, and Darren Flindell called him home, the camera proved otherwise.
Beaten a nostril.
In the last Avdulla rode the $2.15 fav Blondeau.
And he rode him perfectly. He stormed down the centre of the track and was 3rd, beaten half a length by the winner Cisco Bay.
