Glen Boss capped off a day to remember when he scored his fourth feature win on the program at Rosehill on Sydney Cup hopeful Older Than Time.
Boss was the star of the show claiming the Group One Ranvet Stakes and Coolmore Classic double on Zavite and Aloha to go with his early success on Smart Missile in the Group Two Todman Stakes.
But the big-race hoop wasn’t done with, and in his final ride of the day came away victorious again when Older Than Time scored by a nose over Luen Yat Forever in the Listed Sky High Stakes (1900m).
Boss said it was great to reignite an old flame by riding the Gai Waterhouse-trained mare to victory.
“Gai and I had a great association for many years, I’ve probably won 20 or 30 Group Ones for her,” Boss said.
“So it was great to get back on another one for Gai. It’s just been a great day.”
Waterhouse has a Group One mission in her sights with the lightly-raced Older Than Time who scored her first stakes win at her ninth start.
“She is a very good mare in the making,” Waterhouse said.
“It was her first go in a black-type race and she was able to win. She’s heading towards the Sydney Cup.”
For Boss, his four-timer was the perfect statement on the first day of the rebranded Sydney Carnival.
“It’s been a fantastic day,” Boss said.
“These are the days you have to really enjoy. In this game there are a lot of ups and downs but today was important being the start of the carnival.
“I have come up here (from Melbourne) and made a statement today.
“I’ve never been fitter or riding better in my life.”
Boss went to Rosehill confident Golden Slipper contender Smart Missile and Aloha would be hard to beat in their respective races, while Zavite’s Ranvet win as a $101 chance was a pleasant surprise.
