The Lindsay Park team has accepted an invitation to run Caulfield Cup winner Boom Time in the Japan Cup.

David Hayes, the senior Lindsay Park trainer and owner of Boom Time, famously won the Japan Cup with Better Loosen Up in 1990 and Boom Time races in the same colours.

Hayes now trains in partnership with his son Ben and nephew Tom Dabernig who said Boom Time was scheduled to fly to Japan on Monday.

The Japan Cup (2400m) is on November 26.

“He was invited after the Caulfield Cup and then obviously we wanted to see what he did in the Melbourne Cup,” Dabernig said.

“The verdict was that he was well-ridden but he didn’t run the two miles.”

Boom Time, who won the Caulfield Cup last month as a $51 chance, finished 15th in Tuesday’s $6 million Melbourne Cup (3200m).

“The horse pulled up really well and we watched him for 24 hours just to see whether he was jaded or flat but all the signs have been good,” Dabernig said.

“He’s a pretty resilient sort of horse, so he leaves on Monday.”

Dabernig said long-time stable foreman Gary Fennessy will travel with Boom Time along with trackwork rider Dara O’Meachair.

David Hayes will also travel to Japan for the race.

Fennessy travelled with Better Loosen Up when he won the Japan Cup.

The Lindsay Park operation has also had Jeune and Fields Of Omagh run in the Japan Cup, with Jeune finishing sixth in 1994 after his Melbourne Cup win while Fields Of Omagh finished at the tail of the field in 2003.
