Exciting three-year-old filly Blue Door has secured a place in the $20 million The Everest following her dominant victory in Saturday’s Heritage Stakes at Rosehill Gardens.
The Bjorn Baker-trained daughter of Stay Inside will represent slot-holders Newgate Stud and GPI Racing in the world’s richest turf race at Randwick in 19 days.
Blue Door’s Everest credentials received a significant boost when she produced a commanding performance to win the Heritage Stakes, prompting Baker to immediately raise the possibility of tackling the $20 million sprint.
Connections have now committed to that path, with Blue Door joining Hong Kong superstar Ka Ying Rising, Ninja and Headwall among the confirmed runners for this year’s The Everest.
Ka Ying Rising will represent the Hong Kong Jockey Club, Ninja has secured the Fairway Thoroughbreds slot, while Headwall will race for slot-holders Max Whitby, Col Madden, Steve McCann and Neil Werrett.
Blue Door will also be attempting to create history if she can defeat Ka Ying Rising and the rest of the Everest field.
No three-year-old filly has won The Everest since the race was introduced in 2017, while Bella Nipotina became the first female winner of the event when the champion mare claimed the 2024 edition.
For Baker, Blue Door’s emergence continues a strong recent association with The Everest.
The Warwick Farm trainer has been represented in each of the past four editions, saddling Overpass on three occasions along with Stefi Magnetica in 2024.
