Former Hong Kong galloper Quantum Impact will wear blinkers when he lines up at Sandown

The Lindsay Park team of Ben, Will and Jd Hayes have called on a set of blinkers to get that last little bit from former Hong Kong galloper Quantum Impact at Sandown.

The Irish-bred galloper who started his career in the UK before making his way to Hong Kong, has had two starts under the Lindsay Park banner.

Quantum Impact was a three-time winner in the UK before heading to Hong Kong where in four starts he failed to beat a runner home on three occasions.

Will Hayes said Quantum Impact had failed to acclimatise to the conditions in Hong Kong.

He said he had performed well in his two starts for the stable and is looking for the gelding to break through in the Sportsbet More Places Handicap (1600m) on Monday.

“He didn’t acclimatise up there which is very typical of horses that are sent back to Australia,” Hayes said.

“He’s been really suited to the country environment up at Euroa.

“He looked like he was going to win last start. He loomed up on the corner, but didn’t let down, so we’ve applied a set of blinkers so hopefully that will be the winning recipe.”

Quantum Impact was a first-up fourth at Sandown on March 19 before running third at Mornington over 1500m on April 6.

“He ran super first-up at Sandown,” Hayes said.

“Mark Zahra was on him, and he was probably a bit unlucky not to win, so he’s back to a track that we know he performs at and hopefully with the gear change, it will help him.

“It’s a tough race and he’s up in grade from where he was competing at last start, but we think the track is positive, and the gear change being positive will help in a change of placings.”

Daniel Stackhouse, fresh off winning the Mornington Cup on Saturday aboard Bankers Choice, has the ride on Quantum Impact on Monday.
