The Victorian Jockeys’ Association has confirmed that star jockey Blake Shinn has sustained a broken leg in a race fall at Flemington on Tuesday.
As per standard procedure following a fall, Racing Victoria stewards will conduct an inquiry into the incident.
The final race of the Flemington program was delayed while paramedics awaited an ambulance to transport Shinn to hospital.
She’s Got Pizzazz, who completed the race without a rider, was given a precautionary veterinary check back at the race day stalls.
Shinn later posted an update on his social media accounts to thank supporters and to express relief that She’s Got Pizzazz had avoided injury.
“Thank you for all your kind messages after my fall,” Shinn said.
“I’ve broken my leg and will be sidelined for a bit, but I’m very grateful that She’s Got Pizzazz is okay.”
Earlier on the card, Shinn partnered Vauban to finish sixth in the Melbourne Cup.
