Champion mare Black Caviar has drawn barrier five in the 11-horse field for Saturday’s TJ Smith Stakes at Randwick.
The Group One sprint will be Black Caviar’s first appearance outside Victoria and the Australian Turf Club has organised several promotions around the world’s highest-ranked racehorse.
Trainer Peter Moody says Black Caviar will travel from Melbourne overnight on Thursday and foresees no problems with her racing in the opposite direction.
Eight of her opponents are Group One winners including Hay List, runner-up to Black Caviar in the Lightning Stakes, and Crystal Lily who has finished second to the mare at her past two starts in the Newmarket Handicap and William Reid Stakes.
The Peter Snowden-trained Demerit has drawn the rails while All Silent came up with the outside gate.
In the Group One Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m), unbeaten colt Smart Missile will jump from barrier four in a field of 12 which includes Golden Slipper placegetter Elite Falls (barrier five) and last week’s Baillieu Handicap winner Do You Think (barrier eight).
Both Smart Missile and Fast And Sexy (barrier one) had to pass a barrier test early this week to take their places in the Sires after both were scratched at the gates in the Golden Slipper last Saturday.
