Trainer Gavin Bedggood has had considerable success buying horses on-line at a bargain price.
Nasraawy, a $15,000 buy, landed his first city victory on Saturday taking out the Country Racing Victoria Handicap (1000m) at Flemington.
It was Nasraawy’s fourth success for Bedggood after joining his stable following two starts for Lindsay Park and his prize money has soared past the $110,000 mark.
Ridden by Billy Egan, Nasraawy ($10) scored a three-quarter length win from Sham I Am ($31) with the $3 favourite Grand Pope a short-head away third.
“I’ve got a share in this one so that’s good,” Bedggood said.
“We bought him online and we won a maiden with him at Geelong and Class 1 at Pakenham, and I said to the boys we might’ve nearly met his mark, he might be one to look at moving on.
“He then went to Sandown and jarred up really badly, so he went out and had a good 10-week spell.
“I thought he could win first-up (at Sale), and he did.
“He’s eligible for a benchmark 70 but he’s not very big, he’s not one to go around with 59kg, so we thought we’d have a throw at the stumps today and have a go at the (benchmark) 78 with no weight.”
Having more than paid his way earning the ownership group almost $100,000 more than his purchase price, Bedggood is realistic in where Nasraawy sits.
He does not have any lofty plans and hopes he may be able to pick off another city race.
“I’m realistic about his ability,” Bedggod said.
“We paid $15,000 for him and that’s his fourth win for us so he owes us nothing.
“He can hang around for a bit longer now.”
