The Victorian Jockeys Association has reported the two fallen jockeys from the Caulfield Cup have been discharged from hospital.
Mark Zahra and Jye McNeil were transported to the Alfred Hospital following the sickening fall in the Caulfield Cup on Saturday.
Half Yours, ridden by Zahra, fell first with McNeil’s mount Ohope Wins crashing over the top.
Sadly, Ohope Wins was euthanised on humane grounds by Racing Victoria vets.
Zahra and McNeil were taken to hospital for assessment and observation with Zahra being discharged on Saturday night and McNeil on Sunday morning.
“Both boys have escaped serious injury,” the VJA said in a statement.
Meanwhile the campaign of the Tony and Calvin McEvoy-trained Half Yours appears over after Saturday’s fall that left last year’s Caulfield and Melbourne Cups winners battered and bruised and requiring stitches to lacerations.
We are blessed to have taken our horse home and he seems OK,” Tony McEvoy told racing.com.
“It was upsetting for everyone. They all (the stable staff) felt it.
“We sent out a really nice message to all our team at Flemington and Ballarat last night to assure them that our horse is OK and will recover.
“They wear it on their sleeve because they get very close to these horses and do a great job.
“It was gut-wrenching to watch but we feel blessed that we’ve been able to take our horse home and the jockeys are OK.”
