A $750 purchase will take on some much more expensive horses at Moonee Valley on Saturday in the Ladbrokes Plate.
Divine Waters who was a mere $750 at the Australian Weanling Sale will line-up in Saturday’s Ladbrokes Plate at Moonee Valley against some regally bred horses including $500,000 purchase Gleneagles and $400,000 purchase Direct.
The Jack Laing trained filly is currently a $27 chance with Sportsbet in one of the most anticipated races on the card where boom horse Brazen Boy is the heavily backed $2.60 favourite.
Divine Waters was purchased by one of Laing’s friends purely based on breeding prior to Headwater making a name for himself in the sire ranks.
“My friend actually purchased her,” Laing told Racing.com.
“He was very newly getting into the breeding side of things and I’m obviously pretty interested in it, so I was reeling off a few crosses that I liked.
“A day or two later he sent me a screenshot of the filly and I thought she’d go pretty cheap because Headwater hadn’t had a runner then.
“The hammer went down at $750 and I think it was only a month or two later that Wisdom Of Water started to do a bit of damage up north and suddenly she looked like a nice buy.”
The Ladbrokes Plate has proven to be a good form race heading towards the feature two-year-old races in the Autumn with Blue Diamond Stakes winner Tagaloa taking out the event last year.
