Group 1 winner Baraqiel has been ruled out of Saturday’s Newmarket Handicap after returning less-than-ideal blood results.
Owner Nathan Bennett confirmed the decision on Friday, saying connections were unwilling to take any chances with the seven-year-old’s health. The talented sprinter will now bypass the Group 1 feature while the stable focuses on getting him back to full condition.
Baraqiel had been rated an $18 chance in early betting for the race. With his withdrawal, Tentyris sits atop the market as the $2.25 favourite with online bookmakers.
