Ballistic Boy will bypass a race in Brisbane where he would have been favourite to tackle the $1 million Bondi Stakes

Queensland three-year-old Ballistic Boy will bypass a race in Brisbane where he would have been favourite to tackle the $1 million Bondi Stakes at Randwick.

Chris Anderson has booked jockey Rachel King for Ballistic Boy who will give the trainer his first runner in a Sydney feature race.

“The thing with Ballistic Boy is the trip away. I think it will be the making of him. He is still immature but a trip will see him improve even more,” Anderson said.

Anderson has been nervously waiting the final field for the Bondi as Ballistic Boy was 42nd on the ballot.

“That is why we had him in the Brisbane three-year-old. But as it turned out there was no need to worry as the Bondi ended up with ten runners,” he said.

Anderson said Ballistic Boy could now target races in NSW or Melbourne if he raced well.

“There is a 1600m race at Newcastle in three weeks (Spring Stakes) and I think a race like the (Group Three) Sandown Guineas could suit him,” Anderson said.

The colt showed he was up to stakes company with strong efforts in Group One and Group Two races during the winter carnival.

Ballistic Boy has run second at both his starts since a spell and has impressed both times.

“I was particularly happy with his last run when he finished second to Gem of Scotland over 1400m at Eagle Farm,” Anderson said.

“They ran some easy sectionals in the middle stages which didn’t suit him from back in the field.

“But he made up good ground on Gem Of Scotland who is one of the best, if not the best three-year-old in the state.”

“I have been waiting to get him out to 1600m.”

Ballistic Boy has drawn an inside barrier for a race that is a new addition to the Sydney spring racing scene.

Chris Waller has accepted with two runners in Kubrick and Pancho.

Kubrick returns to Sydney after finishing down the course in the Caulfield Guineas but he was Group One-placed in the JJ Atkins over 1600m during the Brisbane winter carnival.

The colt’s most recent Sydney appearance resulted in a midfield placing to Bivouac in the Golden Rose, a Group One race for three-year-olds in which subsequent Everest winner Yes Yes Yes finished second.

Pancho steps up several levels after last-start Sydney midweek win.
