Australia’s flying sprinter Asfoora has been installed as the favourite to claim a third northern hemisphere Group 1 when she lines up in Ireland this weekend.
Fresh from her brilliant win in the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes at York, the Henry Dwyer-trained mare will step out in the Group 1 Flying Five Stakes at The Curragh on Sunday. It will be her second international campaign and her fourth start abroad.
Dwyer won’t be trackside, but travelling assistant Chenelle Ellis is overseeing her preparation and is confident Asfoora is primed. “Her work’s been good, she looks amazing and I’m happy with the horse I’m going to take to Ireland on Sunday,” Ellis said from the stable’s Newmarket base.
Asfoora first announced herself to the global stage when she stormed to victory in the Group 1 King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot in 2024, and she now returns with another chance to showcase her speed to the world. Her Nunthorpe win confirmed she is back to peak form.
With regular UK jockey Oisin Murphy booked for French rides on the same day, Dwyer has secured talented Irish rider Dylan Browne McMonagle to partner the stable star in Sunday’s feature sprint.
