Apprentice jockey Liam Riordan has been suspended for three weeks after he was caught betting on a thoroughbred race in Deauville, France at the Anglers Tavern in Maribyrnong on 17 July 2016.

The Racing Appeals and Disciplinary (RAD) Board has today suspended apprentice jockey Liam Riordan for a period of three weeks for breaching AR 83(c).
Mr Riordan pled guilty to the charge laid by Racing Victoria (RV) Stewards, with AR 83(c) reading:
Every jockey or apprentice may be penalised: (c) If he bet, or facilitates the making of, or has any interest in a bet on any race or contingency relating to thoroughbred racing, or if he be present in the betting ring during any race meeting.
The particulars are that Mr Riordan placed a $20 bet on a thoroughbred race in Deauville, France whilst at the Anglers Tavern in Maribyrnong on 17 July 2016.
Mr Riordan convicted and his race riding permit suspended for a period of 6 months, of which all is suspended, except for a period of 3 weeks on the condition that he satisfactorily completes all counselling as directed by Industry Consultants Lisa Stevens and Dr. Gary Zimmerman.
