A temperature spike in the lead up to the Australian Guineas forced Another Prophet to stay at home, but luckily for the Ciaron Maher stable another race has presented.
Another Prophet had drawn barrier 16 in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington last week, but Maher’s assistant trainer Jack Turnbull said that poor draw had not been contemplated in withdrawing the filly from that race.
Without requiring any medication, Another Prophet heads back to Flemington on Saturday to contest the Group 2 Kewney Stakes (1600m) on Saturday.
“She’s a Thousand Guineas winner and she had drawn wide last week, but that was irrelevant, and the favourite (Angel Capital) ended up coming out also,” Turnbull said.
“She had temp one afternoon (last week) and it was just for the arvo.
“She didn’t need any meds or anything and we always had the option of running on Saturday, so that’s where we’re heading.
“All her bloods and blood pictures have been spot on since.”
Another Prophet won the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield to wind up her spring campaign and has had two runs back this time in.
A first-up fourth at Sandown was followed by a sixth-place finish on a soft track at Flemington on February 15.
“She’s a very consistent filly and now that she’s had the two runs, hopefully she can get the job done on Saturday,” Turnbull said.
“The Kewney is a nice race and on form, there’s only one to beat, Matt Laurie’s star, Treasurethe Moment, so if she can match it with her, and we believe she can, and she’ll need to be at her best, like she was in the Thousand Guineas, you would hope it’s a race in two.
“After this we may look at Sydney, but first we want to see how she performs, but if she can win this, it adds to her page and then maybe she can have a break and get ready for the spring and something like the Empire Rose Stakes.”
