NSW took a firm grip on the inaugural State of Origin jockeys’ series when Tye Angland won the first heat of the third day on Profiler at Doomben.
Angland’s win and his unplaced ride on Londehero in the second heat took NSW to 22 points for the series and eight points clear of New Zealand on 14.
New Zealand’s Opie Bosson was second in the first heat on Maximilian and unplaced in second.
Victoria moved into third place on 12 points when Craig Williams finished second on Court Martial Miss in the second heat and picked up a point for being unplaced in the first.
Queensland remained on 11 points after its representative Glen Boss had both his mounts scratched.
The series has been dogged by scratchings but it sets up a final day next Saturday when any of the four teams can win.
Trainer Stepehn Lee said Profiler should have won at his previous start when narrowly beaten from a wide barrier.
“He was drawn wide again but Tye rode a very heady race to win,” Lee said.
The second heat was won by Heza Bobby Dazzler ($5) who returned to his best form after having a battle with injury.
“It was good for him to win because you keep thinking there is something you are not picking up,” trainer Lindsay Gough said.
