Amelia’s Jewel’s maiden Group 1 assignment is less than a fortnight away, but Simon Miller has already identified a likely target race for the superstar Western Australian filly when she does head east.

The Ascot trainer has his sights set on Melbourne’s $5 million All-Star Mile (1600m).

Amelia’s Jewel on Saturday atoned for the first defeat of her career and stretched her record to five wins from six starts with victory in the $500,000 WA Guineas.

Miller was pleased to see her as explosive as ever out to 1600m and said he was keen to get as good a handle on her as possible before testing her in the east.

“The only reason I didn’t come over (to Melbourne) for this carnival is because I didn’t know what her pet distance is,” Miller said on RSN927.

“Even now, every bit of work you do at home and races she’s always spearing through the line.

“She gets a mile now, we can tick that off, so we’ll go to the 1800 and have a look but I suppose the All-Star Mile is the race you’ve got to give serious consideration to.”

Next year’s All-Star Mile will be run at The Valley on March 18.

The majority of the field is voted into the race by the public and the daughter of Siyouni would be certain to be voted in owing to popularity not only in her home state but also in the east.

Amelia’s Jewel wore down previously unbeaten gelding Bustler to notch the second Group 2 win of her career in the WA Guineas, which was her final start before the $1.5 million Group 1 Northerly Stakes (1800m) at Ascot on December 3.

Miller was pleased to report that she had come through Saturday’s run in fine order.

“She’s so resilient, she just bounces out of things, so we’re on track for two weeks’ time,” he said.

Amelia’s Jewel is TAB’s $2.80 favourite for the weight-for-age Northerly Stakes, in which she will carry just 50kg.
