The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr stable is banking on a drop in grade proving beneficial for Amedei at Sandown.
The daughter of Zoustar drops from a Listed race for three-year-olds to a benchmark 78 race for fillies when she contests the Sportsbet Feed Handicap (1400m) on Saturday.
Amedei resumed with a first-up win in a 1300m maiden at Seymour on April 13 before venturing to the Listed Adelaide Guineas (1600m) at Morphettville, finishing second, at her most recent assignment.
“She’s a promising filly,” Kent Jnr said.
“She won her maiden stylishly from a long way back and then put in a very good effort in the Listed Adeliade Guineas.
“It was a bit of a task we set her, second-up at a mile and it was a deteriorating track that day, but it was job done, so to speak.
“She’s a very well-bred filly and she’s got some Black Type.
“We’re thinking three weeks (between runs) and back to 1400 (metres) makes a lot of sense and it looks a nice option for her.”
Amedei was a $750,000 purchase as a yearling out of the Inglis Easter sale and is a half-sister to Group 3 winner Ducasse
Kent Jnr said Amedei had taken time to develop and was now starting to deliver on the baby steps the stable took with the filly early in her career.
Amadei had three spring starts, contesting two maidens, finishing out of the money, before getting a taste of the big league in Group 2 company at Moonee Valley on Cox Plate Day.
“She was quite immature in the spring, but she’s come back a much better filly and all she wants to do is attack the line,” Kent Jnr said.
“I think you’ll see a nice horse on Saturday.
“She’s doing everything right and she’ll improve again next preparation, but it does look a nice race for her.”
