The younger sister of star jockey Jason Collett, is coming to ride in Australia.
Alysha Collett, an outstanding multiple stakes winning jockey in New Zealand, has been riding for the past 2 years in Singapore.
She isolated in Singapore for 2 weeks, then came to Australia and isolated for a further 3 days.
During this week she began riding work in Sydney.
“I can tell you it’s bloody cold here,” she said with a laugh, just happy to be out of a hotel.
And on Sunday at Queanbeyan she will have 2 rides, both for her brother Jason’s girlfriend, Clare Cunningham.
“I was completely bored during isolation and couldn’t wait to get here.
“When you start re-watching Netflix shows that’s when you know how horrible isolation is.”
Alysha Collett had always planned to come and ride in Australia following in Jason’s footsteps, and the pandemic just sped that process up.
“Once the virus subsides and Singapore can race again, I’ve been told I can go back, but I’ll give Australia a good go first then decide.
Both her Queanbeyan mounts, ARADHANA is race 2 and FIGHT THE KNEAD in race 6 have excellent chances.
There’s every chance she can be a winner at her first meeting since the virus hit the world.
