The Group One George Main Stakes is firming as the next race for All Too Hard after the colt was a notable absentee from the $1 million Golden Rose field.

The Patinack Farm-owned colt wasn’t among the 10 Golden Rose acceptors on Tuesday, with Nechita, owned in the same interests, a short-priced favourite to win the Group One race at Rosehill on Saturday.

All Too Hard, a half-brother to Black Caviar, is trained by the family partnership of John, Michael and Wayne Hawkes and is set to step up to 1600m at weight-for-age at Randwick on Saturday week.

“I think John Hawkes and Michael up here in Sydney just felt as though he (All Too Hard) needed to get to a mile,” Patinack Farm’s chief executive Peter Beer said.

“With the three-week break it’s just probably ideal to more than likely go to the George Main.

“That’s not set in stone but a race like that would be something we would probably look at.”

John Hawkes has had plenty of success racing three-year-olds in weight-for-age races including George Main Stakes wins with Dracula in 1998 and Viscount in 2001.

All Too Hard was third in the Group Three San Domenico Stakes (1100m) first-up before finishing fifth in the Run To The Rose (1200m) last start.
