Star galloper Zaaki is edging closer to a return to the track, having been withdrawn from several autumn features after a less than satisfactory trial at Rosehill last month. Trainer Annabel Neasham announced that the four-time Group 1 winner is on the mend after being given a short break, although the reason for his performance last month is still a mystery.
“We still don’t know what caused his lacklustre performance, and all the tests we’ve done have come back with perfect results,” Neasham said. She then went on to suggest that Zaaki may make his G1 comeback in Sydney before venturing north to Brisbane for the Winter Carnival. “If we’re happy with him we’ll trial him, if he trials like he usually does he’ll probably head to the All Aged Stakes before heading up to the Doomben Cup,” Neasham said.
As Zaaki gets closer to a return to the track, all eyes will be on him to see if he can regain the form that has made him one of the most successful horses in racing history.
