The field for the 2024 All-Star Mile gains two exciting additions as New Zealand Group 1 victor Aegon and resilient contender Ayrton both clinch wildcards.
Aegon, under trainer Andrew Forsman, eyes redemption after an unplaced finish last year.
The big race specialist brings recent Group 1 form to Caulfield’s $4 million feature.
Joining him is Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr’s Ayrton, whose remarkable comeback from a near-fatal spider bite captivates racing fans.
Ayrton’s stellar Caulfield record and impressive recent performances, including a notable Blamey Stakes run, secure his wildcard entry.
“Ayrton’s owners made a highly convincing case for him,” said Matt Welsh, Racing Victoria’s Executive General Manager – Racing.
“Given his track record at Caulfield, where he has produced three Stakes wins, it made a lot of sense to award him a wildcard.”
“Ayrton arguably would have won the Blamey Stakes with clean air, and it would be no surprise to see him run a big race at Caulfield on 16 March.”
Reflecting on Aegon’s inclusion, Welsh stated, “Aegon bounced back to something like his best in New Zealand last start. He brings recent Group 1 form to the race, and his best form would see him most competitive in this year’s All-Star Mile.”
