Promising horses like Moudre, Mr Charlie, The Hombre and Gallant Lady will also line up in one of the better Geelong Cups of recent times.

The race has grown in stature in the last decade, with it now considered a prime lead up to the Melbourne Cup 13 days later.

In the last 20 years, the only horse to do the double was the Dermot Weld-trained Media Puzzle in 2002.

However, numerous winners have placed at Flemington.

These include Bauer, On a Jeune and Mr Brooker.

Those who are beaten also can figure in the Melbourne Cup, with notable examples including Crime Scene and She’s Archie.
