A punter on Sunday could have placed arguably the worst single bet of the year on the Japan Cup.
The punter with the TAB placed a $5,000 bet on Caulfield Cup winner Boom Time to win the Japan Cup at odds of $26.
Boom Time jumped at 265-1 on the Japanese tote which was more than 10x the price of some Australian bookmakers who had the Lindsay Park trained galloper as short as $21.
Boom Time finished 12th and never looked likely despite a good ride by jockey Corey Parish.
