Hands up if you remember the still magnificent finishing burst HAURAKI displayed in the winning the 2016 version of the Gr 1 Epsom Hcp.
To recap, and this is important, he came from stone-motherless in the spread-out field of 13 on the bend, yet flashed down the Randwick straight to claim the $1million race by a nostril. His CHAUTAUQUA-type display from so far back and with such force caught the race caller Darren Flindell off guard as he missed him until 25m from the post.
It was a blur of Godolphin blue out wide.
Well, if you watch this replay of a young horse keeping his unbeaten winning record in tack at Kembla yesterday, there was more than a hint of Hauraki (Reset-Youthful Presence) in the way he finished too. Race caller missing him until late, et al.
His name is CRIADERAS, he was perfectly ridden by Kathy OโHara, and he also is owned by Godolphin. Oh, he may well end up to be just as good as Hauraki.
Now, the Hauraki comparison is appropriate here. Hauraki won over $2.5million in prizemoney and if not for being beaten 4 times by Winx, in Gr 1 races, it would have been a lot more.
Criaderas (Lonhro-Youthful Presence) is Haurakiโs little brother.
Heโs also the kid-brother to Gr 1 winner KIDNAPPED; Gr 2 winner and Gr 1 placed ACADEMUS, Listed stakes winner DELEDIO and the very exciting rising Godolphin star, SUAVE.
So fair to say, Youthful Presence has been one of the great matron success stories of this century.
Which makes this next fact, a little sad.
None of her male babies, all listed above Criaderas included, will be able to breed as they ALL were gelded while young.
Anyway, Hauraki at his first two races starts, sat back and stormed home from near last to win roaring away. Criaderas (and Suave for that matter) have done same.
This bloke looks to be highly promising and may even be very good.
