Did we see a really smart one today at Kensington?
Perhaps so.
DELEXO (Exosphere – Delectable Dora) trained by Kristin Buchanan, ran himself, according to his trainer, into The Everest contention for next year when he absolutely smashed the Kensington 1000m track record.
After jumping in front, and under 59kg with Jason Collett aboard, he just extended and once they turned, he accelerated with astonishing audacity.
He came home his last 600m in a staggering 32.08sec. โI knew he was fast but even that amazed me,โ said Buchanan. โItโs always nice to be pleasantly surprised like that.โ
Delexo won by just on 3 lengths from SONNET STAR (Star Turn – Seven Sonnets) with The NEON KNIGHT (All Too hard – Sheโs Hot) a nose away in 3rd.
โHe still has a lot to learn because heโs just one dimensional at the moment,โ explained Collett. โHe just knows to go and and he is very fast. But give him time and he learns more about racing, he will have a big future.โ
Today was the horseโs 9th race start and his 4th win, with $92,000 now in stakes earnings.
He was a 2YOs In Training horse being purchased for just $45,000.
There will be a lot more wins and better ones at that in store for this flying machine.
Delexo ran 55:68sec.
