This was some sort of effort.
A low key 1900m at Gosford produced one of the best performances but a young, emerging stayer you will see for some time.
His name is DENILIQUIN (Adelaide – So Sydney) and on reflection there really isnβt any reason he should have won.
But he did carrying 59kg as well as, Iβm certain, a rather bemused rider in Josh Parr.
Randwick trainer John Thompson trains him and today he was having his 9th start. He had previously placed three times but none of his efforts have come close to the gargantuan run he put in today.
Flattened and seemingly put out of play on the first turn, losing seven lengths, he steadied, recovered, joined the field then at the halfway mark he had to check off heels and lost another three lengths.
Then he came 7-wide around the home bend and just flew home.
Looks like he can run all day.
Watch: Deniliquin knocked virtually out of the race after 100m, recovers, cops a check mid race and still wins.
