Those immortal words of ‘the accurate one’ Bill Collins regarding Kingston Town in the Cox Plate, stayed with him until the day he died.
They being of course, “Kingston Town can’t win,” when he saw with 500m to go the King not travelling well.
Of course, history records that he did rally and came with a wet sail to claim victory, one of three times he won the Cox Plate.
Many callers go off too soon. Sydney’s Anthony Manton once called a horse home, and it was run down on the line.
No one is perfect. But while I often highlight clever calling moments, of late by Darren Flindell, etc, I have to share this with you.
It happened at Canterbury Park racetrack last night. And is perhaps the worse call in racing history!
Canterbury Park (formerly Canterbury Downs), is a horse racing track in Shakopee, Minnesota, in the States. It runs a meet that consists of about 70 racing days from early May to mid-September, and last night it rose to social media infamy.
I need say no more.
You listen. The horse in which he bungles is called TAPIA. Early crow left egg on his face.
