The horse KING OF HEARTS (Sebring – Eloping) started at $26 so many people weren’t on it, but those who were were left scratching their heads.
Probably even swearing.
The big flashy chestnut gelding was beaten into 3rd spot at Canterbury, less than a length by the winner ELECTRIC (Kermadec – Boredom) but should have won by 100 yards.
You have to watch the run to believe it and you will, like everyone who saw the performance, ask one simple question: what was the jockey doing?
Kathy O’Hara rode King of Hearts who at one stage was 12 lengths behind the second last horse.
Then when he caught up he was baulked for a run when trying to go outside, so switched back to the inside and had to come off heels last 100m.
The run was simply phenomenal.
He is a veteran of just 6 starts now, this was his first from a spell and his 2nd placing.
Doubtless, if he can sit closer in the running he will be winning races.
Mark him down as a BIG FAT Black Booker.
