An unraced two-year-old may have earned himself a ticket to Hong Kong after a commanding 14.5-length trial win at Toowoomba on Tuesday.
Trained by Mark Currie, Eli Creek demolished his four rivals in the 925m heat, clocking 54.96s in a performance that turned heads and drew immediate attention from overseas buyers.

Apprentice jockey Shania Willis partnered the son of Tassort in the trial, but if the stable’s sale plans go ahead, it could be her final ride on the promising youngster.
“I wouldn’t say we expected him to win by that big of a margin, but we did have a good opinion of the horse and we’re hopeful that he could trial up well and possibly sell,” stable representative Ben Currie told RadioTAB’s Steve Hewlett.
“And there’s been a few offers for him, so we’re basically waiting on the vet now, if he clears the vet, he’ll probably be gone to Hong Kong.”
If a sale doesn’t go through, Eli Creek could instead line up in the Magic Millions National 2YO Classic (1000m) at the Gold Coast.
But Currie explained that the horse, a $30,000 yearling purchase from the 2024 sales, was always part of a long-term plan to be developed and sold.
“It’s always that Catch-22 if you’re doing the right thing selling or not,” Currie said.
“We kind of had him down as a trade horse from the start that we wanted to sell all the way through, so that was what he was there to do yesterday.
“If all goes well with the X-rays, he’s done his job.”
Currie added that the colt had originally been prepared as a breeze-up prospect but failed to meet his reserve price at the time.
“We actually had him as a breeze-up horse, but he didn’t meet his reserve.
“And then obviously now he’s trialled up to sell basically.
“He’s an impressive horse, a beautiful big strong horse, good natured horse.
“I’m sure he’ll do a really good job for his new owners.”
While the opposition in the trial included Gluttony and Sweet Poppy β both of whom ran last in their respective race debuts β the clock told a compelling story. Eli Creek’s 925m time was significantly quicker than any other heat on the card, with no other trial breaking the 56-second barrier.
