At Queensland’s Marburg paceway on Sunday, perhaps the easiest, biggest, most comprehensive, dominant performance seen on a racetrack since Secretariat in the Belmont stakes occurred.
And we have footage.
But despite the win of I’m Loki, and the sheer speed he showed from gate rise, the real story is in his career.
This was his 122nd race start!
True, he had won 9 races prior to this, his latest win two starts back at Albion Park in a stronger field, but surely, even at his prohibited price of $1.08, no-one saw this type of win coming.
He just took off and spread-eagled them. He kept running sub 30sec splits on this slow track and recorded a time under 2:00mins.
It must have been something to behold for the owners and anyone game enough to take the short odds. He scored by about 50m!
