At Gosford this afternoon, a horse with a seemingly unpronounceable name, should win but in the process produce an interesting race call.
That horse is YGGDRASIL (Sacred Falls-Accidentallyinlove) and she is trained by Chris Waller.
She contests the first at Gosford on at 2:20pm Sydney time.
Now, I HATE not knowing the meaning of horse names and, as much as that, hate not knowing how to pronounce them.
I get soooo annoyed when callers mispronounce names too.
Sooo, I did my due diligence. And my homework has uncovered this.
Yggdrasil is an immense ash tree that is the centre of the cosmos and considered very holy. In many cultures, particularly to the Norsk, home of the Vikings etc, it is a most sacred place.
This filly is by Sacred Falls. So there’s your reason for the name.
Her mum is Accidentallyinlove, and we all know, irrespective of how old and shrivelled up and cynical you’ve become, how sacred and precious love is too.
But to the way it is pronounced.
In English it should be said as: Ig Drar Sell.
Now, today, I’m tipping she jumps straight on the bunny and leads all the way.
Proving once and for all that there are reasons why sacred things and special!
