All eyes will be on Flemington this afternoon when people’s champion Black Caviar aims for her sixteenth consecutive win in the 1,200 metre Patinack Farm Classic in just over two hours’ time.
Tens of thousands have already flocked to Flemington Racecourse to celebrate the final day of the Victoria Racing Club’s (VRC) Melbourne Cup Carnival, soaking up the sunshine with family and friends at Emirates Stakes Day.
Emirates Stakes Day boasts two $1 million Group 1 races – the scorching Patinack Farm Classic featuring the undefeated Black Caviar at 2.15pm, and Victoria’s premier 1,600 metre contest, the Emirates Stakes, at 3:00pm.
Children and teenagers aged six to 17 years will take centre stage on the catwalk in fashionable and fun racewear for the popular Emirates Stakes Day Fashions on the Field, finishing at 2:25pm.
Over at ‘The Zone’, children have been enjoying the numerous activities on offer, including art and craft, mini golf, carousel and rides. Teens have been hanging out in the Teen Lounge, complete with couches, arcade games, a dance machine and photo booth, ahead of a special live performance by Jack Vidgen at 3.20pm.
Families have set up picnic rugs on the Flemington’s front lawns, soaking up the spectacular weather and racing action, which has so far seen Real Stolle take out the Hong Kong Jockey Club Maribyrnong Plate, He’s Remarkable the Visit Victoria 0-95 Handicap and Musical Hit the Antler Luggage 0-95 Handicap.
The Bureau of Metrology is predicting a warm afternoon and bumper crowds are gathering ahead of Black Caviar’s likely history busting run.
At 1:00pm Jimmy Choux was favourite for the Emirates Stakes showing $4.40 for a $1 bet with TAB Sportsbet, while Black Caviar has been backed in to $1.05.
