It’s been fun getting to know a bit more about Australia’s trainers and in our latest Quick Questions interview we have a chat with Sparta Racing’s Emma-Lee Browne.
What is your first racing memory?
I remember everyone watching Horlicks win the Japan Cup.
Who is your favourite horse and why?
My favourite horse was and always will be Leica Guv as he meant the world to me. He was one of the first horses I travelled overseas with and he taught me so much about racing.
Who is the best horse you’ve been involved with?
Hoping it’s gonna be one in the barn at the moment but probably Leica Guv and Rollout the Carpet. When we were breakers and doing ready to run prep it would have been Beat The Clock.
And the best horse you have seen?
Lucky to live in a time where I have been able to see Sunline, Black Caviar and Winx.
Who is your ‘what if’ horse?
Elephant, he was always a very tricky horse to manage with his conformation. We always think how good he could have been if he had the soundness to go with his massive heart and will to win.
Who do you admire most in racing?
Bjorn Baker, made the move over, smashing it with the training and his socials. He makes me laugh, I love his attitude and his great will to win.
What is one change/improvement you’d love to see in racing?
More opportunities to teach and encourage more young people to come into our industry.
What’s the funniest moment you’ve experienced in racing?
Lucky to have had a few, but recently when our owner Mark dressed up in a zebra mask and Will Gordon then rode him following his win at Dunkeld 🤣
What is your favourite pastime outside of racing?
Love a good Sunday market, live concerts and usually visiting random pubs with my side kick David.
What is your favourite T.V show/movie/book?
Recently…
Book – Sharon Osborne Extreme.
TV show – Running Point.
Movie – Secretariat, our youngest watches it so much I think I know every line by heart!
What slogan summarizes your outlook on life?
Bring it!
Favourite food?
Seafood.
Favourite racecourse?
Dunkeld then Flemington.
If you weren’t a racehorse trainer what would you be doing?
Nursing or a charcuterie platter maker.
