Did we see a new stallion hope race at Canterbury yesterday?
I think so, but the main question is: would you send a mare to him?
His name is Embracer, a strong winner over 1200m at BM 70 level carrying 58kg.
He showed great toe to lead and tremendous fight to stave off his rivals and win by 2.3 lengths.
All that, coming at just his 5th race start, which now boasts 2 wins and 3 placings.
He’s a big, chunky, handsome type and on all you’ve just read alone, he’d be attractive at the right price.
But here’s the thing of greater interest.
He is by Sebring, sire of Criterion and Dissident, and is from the mare Leone Chiara.
That mare was a Gr 3 winner and is a Blue Hen producer. Her sons include multiple Gr 1 winner and prolific winner-getting sire Star Witness, as well as multiple Gr 3 winner and now sire Nostradamus.
Leone Chiara is also the full-sister to multiple Gr 2 winner Chinchilla Rose and Ferocity who is also a successful sire.
Chiaramonto is a half-brother as well, and he is a stakes winner while Lumina is another sister and Lumina is the mother of star 3YO and emerging talent Pohutakawa who is already a stakes winner and Gr 2 placed.
All of a sudden Embracer is now very appealing and now that trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott have realised he races very well with a tongue tie on, he might well win at stakes level.
Black book him for both future racetrack success and at stud.
