Country Cup racing continues at Wellington this Sunday for the Wellington Cup (1700m), with the race carrying Big Dance eligibility.
Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2025 Wellington Cup.
2025 Wellington Cup Runner Preview:
1. Super Strike: Got back off the speed in the Les Vampires race from Rosehill but didn’t mind the way he closed his race off in defeat. Gate makes things tricky but his best is clearly good enough.
2. Cliff House: Another stride and he likely wins last time at Canberra. Think he’ll run really well here…but for mine, this looks a prep run for the big target race (I would assume), the Wagga Cup.
3. Cinque Torri: Attempted to lead throughout in the Les Vampires race from Rosehill and did well but just tired late. Will land on speed and take running down.
4. Miracle Spin: Was okay late without threatening in the Newcastle Stakes. Better set up here for him and has the quality to threaten.
5. Don Pedro: Solid fourth on the Kenso on Wednesday…do they back up? Potentially, but off his effort there, I can’t entertain him.
6. Aimpoint: Did a good job in defeat last week at Eagle Farm, albeit that race was thin. Just not sure he is good enough to beat some of these.
7. Oakfield Prince: Oakfield Prince is a beauty for Kris Lees and should prove hard to beat. He was a strong winner over the mile at Wyong last time where he knuckled down in the straight and got better as the race went on to win well. Steps up to a solid Country Cup, but confident he measures up.
8. Dances With Hooves: Ripping run last week in the CC Qualifier at Scone. Flying, will be strong late, she can win.
9. Blow In: Sneaky flying this guy and was good late without threatening in the Albury Mile. Firmer deck helps and will be strong late. Knockout hope.
10. Tycoon Charger: Plain return at Muswellbrook. Not for me.
11. Victory Roll: Didn’t do a bad job at Goulburn. More depth here, but a good racing style and will be strong…first four contender.
12. Just A Brother: Outclassed last time in the Midway and suspect he’ll be outclassed again.
13. Ring Ahoy (First Emergency): Was okay last time at Hawkesbury. He maps to do no work, be strong late, and could pinch a first four spot at a price.
14. Rebel’s Edge (Second Emergency): Got way too far out of his ground at Doomben last time but was good late. Just think he lacks the class.
15. Graeme’s Shout (Third Emergency): Hard to beat in a 58 race. Not this.
2025 Wellington Cup $100 Betting Strategy:
$20 Win/$80 Place Oakfield Prince.
2025 Wellington Cup Speed Map
Looks to be a bit of speed here. Aimpoint, Cinque Torri and Don Pedro look like they’ll press forward, generating a good speed. Oakfield Prince will slide across and get into a nice spot. They may force their hand and go forward on Victory Roll.
