He’s a bit of an enigma but Gallic Chieftain has been the best supported to take out the final event at Caulfield this Saturday, the Herbert Power Stakes (2400m).
The Darren Weir trained stayer comes here off the back of a ripping second to The Taj Mahal in the JRA Cup (2040m) at the Valley. The 2400m here looks idea and punters agree. He opened $11 and has firmed at every call, now into $8 and is one of the best backed runners to gain entry into the Caulfield Cup.
Metropolitan runner Brimham Rocks is the $5 favourite and solid enough at that price, opening $4.80. Dal Harraild ($19-$26-$18) has had each way specking at longer odds.
