A punter with the TAB has ended the day on a bad note with their $72,000 bet going down in a photo finish at Belmont.
The TAB punter had $72,000 on Boomtastic to win the sixth at Belmont on Saturday but the heavily backed favourite was labouring early in the straight before rallying late to run third in a three-way photo finish.
Boomtastic opened at $3.00 in early markets but had been one of the best backed horses with the TAB across the country with a single wager of $72,000 seeing the horse jump at $2.30 but never really looked likely to win until the last few strides of the race.
