Country Cup racing continues this Saturday, with the Warracknabeal Cup (1600m) attracting a small but strong field.
Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2025 Warracknabeal Cup.
2025 Warracknabeal Cup Runner Preview:
1. La Zebra: He is the class of the field but just not sure what upside there is left given he was plain and looked a tired horse in the Easter Cup at Caulfield. If he wins, I am losing on the race.
2. Jabbawockeez: First up at the mile here…is he preparing for the 1700m at Warrnambool? Maybe. 1600m fresh does tell me though that he is forward in condition and he does go well on the fresh side. Leading contender.
3. Angry Skies: He could be completely cast this horse given he has failed to fire in two runs back. But, I do think his best is clearly good enough to take this out and hard fit now, at a suitable trip, thin race, he’s worth a throw at the stumps.
4. Flying Basil: Comes back to the mile after on speed and tiring badly in the Mount Gambier Cup. Not sure he’s got much upside left and the last run does tell me he may be wanting the paddock.
5. El James: One of the more promising gallopers in the Symon Wilde camp. First up in a Country Cup tells me he’s ready to play here and he does have a touch of quality about him. Leading contender.
6. Dark Harmony: Was on speed at Donald last start and just felt the pinch late. Harder here, I don’t think he’s up to these.
7. Chosen Venture: Didn’t do a bad job from off the speed at Benalla last time but this is much harder.
8. Salisbury Hill: Gave them a start and a beating to win at Terang last week. This is harder but Wayne Walters doesn’t mind aiming at a Country Cup and will do no work from the gate. First four threat.
9. Cork Harbour: Didn’t do a bad job on speed at Morphettville Parks last time out and will give a good sight. Just not sure he has the quality to see it through.

Small field but I can see a few of these going forward, generating a solid tempo. Flying Basil and Dark Harmony look the main pair, but Cork Harbour and El James could have something to say about that. Le Zebra should get a lovely run off that front few.
