Randwick Tuesday January 27
Heat 1 – Group Trial 1000m (58.07)
Lindermann looks to be humming. He’s flying for Chris Waller and trials aren’t everything, but for mine, he smoked here vs Sir Delius, who isn’t a star trialler, but he was under riding and Lindermann was seemingly jogging when second. I think he’s in for a big prep.
Heat 4 – Open Trial (1.13.75)
Marked him down as a star trialler a couple of weeks ago and will do it again with Sam Hawkens. Loved the way he trucked behind the speed and hit the line strongly when a narrow second. The more I look at him, the more I warm to him towards the Sydney Cup.
Heat 8 – Open Trial (1.02.65)
I think Napoleonic could be the Randwick Guineas horse. Gee this was a good trial, sitting on speed before being clicked up by J Mac and the last 50m, he powered to the line. He’s going to give the good races a shake and could be a sleeper for the Doncaster.
Heat 10 – Maiden Trial 1050m (1.02.78)
I think the Derby winner trialled here. Providence…yes, it was a maiden trial, but my goodness this trial was something. Last at the top of the straight, and smoked through gaps under minimal pressure to finish second. He’s going to be a real force at 2000m+.
Heat 11 – Maiden Trial 1050m (1.04.24)
Profitabelle looks a nice juvenile for Bjorn Baker. Took on the older horses in this trial and gee showed nice change up speed without much riding to win well and ran decent enough time. Keen to see how she goes.
Pakenham Tuesday January 27
Heat 3 – Open 800m (46.15)
She’s Bulletproof looks right on track for the Oakleigh Plate first up, if indeed they are heading that way (assuming they are). Tucked in behind the speed before cutting back inside and under a hold, glided through to win the jumpout. Likely has one more jumpout before a return. Looks to have returned well.
Wyong Wednesday January 28
Heat 3 – Open 1000m (59.26)
Kim Waugh loves to target the Provincial Championship and I reckon one of her contenders will be Northern Eyes. He ran second last in this trial, but looked to be absolutely jogging in behind with plenty in hand. He’s in for a good prep me thinks.
Heat 4 – Open 1000m (1.00.03)
Really good trial from Dusty Bay here, leading throughout and won comfortably. Reckon he’s another that could be a Provincial Championships contender, leading throughout and won with something in reserve. Keen to see where they head, whether he heads down the Guineas path or aims lower. If it’s the latter, follow with confidence.
Heat 7 – Maiden 1000m (1.00.31)
Unraced horse by the name of Keinbah’s Warrior. He was last throughout but the last 100m, he charged to/through the line and did it without really being extended. First official trial here, so will be interesting to see how he progresses.
Rosehill Thursday January 29
Heat 8 – 2YO 900m (56.93)
Tenenbaum looks a nice colt for Brad Widdup. Led throughout to win the trial and won it under a hold while the runner up was ridden right out. Time was nothing to jump up and down about but he did it comfortably.
Friday Friday January 30
Heat 1 – Open 1000m (59.85)
Would love to see this guy aimed at the Country Championships. He is flyin for Cam Crockett. Has run well at 2100m but last prep, first prep for Crockett, he was kept to sprint trips. Two trials, this being the second, where he smoked late, indicate to me he’s come back super.
