The Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) is one of the feature races at Randwick this Saturday, with the market pointing to a competitive contest.

2026 Tramway Stakes Runner Preview:
1. Headley Grange: Class will carry him a long way and has trialled well. Plus, a kind map…I think he’s right in the mix against this lot.
2. Transatlantic: First up with eyes towards better races but has trialled well and can press forward to be out of trouble. In the mix for sure.
3. Attica: Attica takes beating for Joe Pride after a first up second three weeks ago at Rosehill, sitting off speed and tried hard but didn’t have the change up speed to go with Althoff, who is becoming a near top seed for the Epsom. Fitter, he only runs well.
4. El Castello: He needs to be retired. He’s cast.
5. Private Eye: Private Eye was huge in defeat fresh in the PB Lawrence behind Cosmic Crusader given he did work to land on speed and tried his guts out but was nabbed late by Cosmic Crusader. If that hasn’t busted him, he’ll run very well.
6. Fangirl: SCR
7. Idle Flyer: Ran enormous in the Winx given the fast run nature of the race. Just staying at 1400m is the slight knock but off the return, is clearly one of the hardest to beat.
8. Panova: Talented mare but I dare say has eyes on races like the Golden Eagle/Empire Rose and the trials indicate she’ll be better for the first up run.
9. Soothsayer: Soothsayer steps up to 1400m after resuming over 1200m in the Show County where the race shape was against him but he kept chasing and finding the line in defeat when second to Midnight In Tokyo. Fitter and up in trip, he commands respect.

Hard to find an early leader. Transatlantic can settle on speed but first up, may opt for cover, and with that, I think Private Eye is the leader but may get the cart over via El Castello. Attica and Headley Grange should settle handy.
