Randwick on Saturday saw some very progressive gallopers at the races and thought the track played well with race pace and talent the key to winning rather than any bias.
Below is our look at a few horses’ worth following on what they produced on the clock on the weekend.
Race 1- Warwoven 1st
This looked a hot 2yo race on paper and the performance from the Bjorn Baker trained colt has confirmed that. The race was run at an average speed early, but this bloke zipped home, running his last 600m in 33.02 seconds which was some 7 lengths above the class average. His 400-200m split of 10.66 seconds was the quickest of the day and indicated he has instant acceleration. Overall time wasn’t outrageous, but those late splits were off the charts good for a debut.
He relaxed well early and knuckled down late to win like a real seasoned pro, some encouraging signs for a debut performance. He looks a genuine top line two-year-old and has to be a leading player in the Magic Millions Classic and Golden Slipper if he stands up to racing.
The 3rd horse Hardanger also produced a big 400-200m split and kept coming to the line, I’d be looking to follow her also at her second start.
An impressive win on debut for Warwoven in the opener at Randwick! 💨pic.twitter.com/QucJgl1bqN

Race 4- Big Papa 3rd (Blue Sleeves, Yellow Braces)
This race was run at a solid speed with the leader covering the first 600m some +2.6 lengths above the class average and setting up a strong tempo. The winner Plaintiff thrived on that and has run a good figure from a speed rating perspective, the best run away from her in the race I thought was Big Papa who was coming off a 1100m run to the 1300m and had to chase from a long way out but was strong late running the 22nd best Last 200m of the day in 11.84 seconds. This was despite being held up from the 400m to about the 250m and having to come across heels, so he was unlucky given that.
He should only improve fitness wise from that and looks like on that run he’ll handle a step up in trip.
Now this is a smart filly!

Race 7- King’s Secret 1st (Black, Lime Green), Cool Jakey 5th (Light Blue, Navy Silks)
King’s Secret looked extremely well placed here with just 52.5kgs on his back and was well backed. He’s won well visually but there’s plenty of merit on the clock also, with him having a good burst in the middle stages or in sectional land a mid race squeeze (800-400m) running those section some 2.4 lengths above the average and his last 400m was still rock solid in 22.80 seconds. The overall time was impressive for the day and indicates he can keep winning as he goes through the grades and gets added race fitness.
The other runner worth highlighting here is Cool Jakey, he was first up but rattled home late, running his last 400m in 22.54 seconds which was the 7th quickest of the meeting and indicated his returned in good order this preparation.
King’s Secret makes it 5 wins from 10, he’s a beauty!
Could be a fruitful summer ahead for him 😎@ZacLloydx @PrideRacing @ProvenTbreds pic.twitter.com/53DEk3p3x2
