The Adelaide Carnival concludes on Saturday, with The Goodwood (1200m) highlighting the nine-race card at Morphettville.
Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2025 The Goodwood.
2025 The Goodwood Runner Preview:
1. Charm Stone: Charm Stone was a super winner of the Robert Sangster first up. She got a good trailing draw into the race before Zahra angled wider and she let down with very good change-up speed to win and win well. Job done, but she commands respect being a last-start Group 1 winner.
2. Climbing Star: She’s not a noted second-up performer but even allowing for that, she was very plain and never really a factor. Traditionally can bounce back third up but off the Sangster run, I can’t entertain her and have her unders.
3. Sghirripa: Sghirripa has found positive form and can certainly maintain it. They rode with intent in the Irwin a few weeks back, leading, and he gave a strong kick from the front, but had no answers late for the finale of class mare Asfoora. Off that effort, he can run top four.
4. Watchme Win: Dominant win in the John Hawkes but this race looks much harder, he’s drawn tricky…he can go through to the keeper.
5. Sir Sway: Did plenty of work on speed in the Railway at Oakbank and tried his guts out but was nabbed late by Volcanic Express. 1200m at this level seems a bridge too far.
6. Stretan Angel: I think she is a big improver. She comes through the Sangster where she got too far back off the speed and was held up at times but was good late when eventually clear. Can use the inside gate to advantage and be effective late. Her best is good enough to threaten.
7. Giga Kick: Giga Kick is the best horse in the race, by some distance, and even if he’s not 100%, he just looks to have lengths on these. He resumes, having not raced since the Champions Sprint when far from disgraced in defeat behind Sunshine In Paris, getting back and making up some ground, which followed a narrow second in The Everest. Jumpout work has been strong and has a clear class edge.
8. Reserve Bank: Been really well placed since coming to SA with wins in the Redelva and Tobin Bronze, each time being impressive from off the speed. He’s flying, hard fit, 1200m no issue…he’s a threat if Giga Kick is off his game.
9. Press Down: He’ll likely lead this field up but the end of 1200m at this level, I think, will be too much.
10. Volcanic Express: Absolutely flying at present but has a tricky draw to contend with and is another that I think will struggle at 1200m at this level.
11. Generosity: I am amazed she is the price she is. She’s got none, surely? Lucy Fiore, IMO, is currently the best rider in WA so her making the trip across is a positive but I just don’t see her running 1200m out strongly at this level.
12. Ameena: Team Freedman going back to the well in getting Dean Yendall to ride a lightweight Group 1 chance. But, IMO, Yendall is absolutely cast, so the rider change scares me, but she was very good without luck in the Sangster and is well in at the weights.
13. Prairie Flower: Reckon she would have been a good thing in the Proud Miss but the chance to get a Group 1 placing is there for her here. She’ll be strong late and was very good late in the Sangster. She can run top four.

2025 The Goodwood Speed Map
There appears to be a few main speed influences, namely Press Down and Sir Sway, with that pair likely to battle for the front. Sghirripa should get the cart across via Press Down and potentially land 1/1.
