Before the first qualifier takes place on February 27, Animate and Great News have opened $15 equal favourites at TAB for the Provincial Championships Final on April 10 at Royal Randwick.
Animate – trained by Kris Lees at Newcastle – has raced 13 times for five wins, one second and one third, with his latest win occurring two starts back in the Magic Millions Country Cup over 1200 metres at Gold Coast on January 9.
Great News – trained by Kim Waugh at Wyong – has not missed a placing from her eight career starts with four wins, third seconds and a third.
The four-year-old mare was victorious two runs ago in a fillies and mares benchmark 78 over 1400 metres at Newcastle on November 14.
The first Provincial Championships Qualifier is at Newcastle on February 27.
