Star Witness is now a clear $8 favourite for the Australian Guineas after one Sportingbet Australia punter backed him to win half a million dollars.
Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said the bet suggested Star Witness had come back in great order.
“One punter came in with $50,000 at $11 for Star Witness and you’d have to suggest it’s a confident bet,†said Sullivan.
“The horse has shown plenty of promise as a 2yo and again during the Spring and has shown a liking for the spacious Flemington track.â€
Sullivan said he would be an interested observer when the Starcraft colt resumes.
“As he has only won up to 1200 metres you’d think he would need a slightly different preparation,†Sullivan said.
“While the breeding on the sire side suggests he’ll get the mile, his dam was a short course flyer so the end of 1600 metres could cause some problems.â€
