The second of the majors this Saturday at Caulfield is the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) where Angel Capital has been well tried in early betting.
Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2025 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes.
2025 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes Runner Preview:
1. Another Wil: Been hearing all week how well he worked earlier this week. But, the noise pre Memsie was that he was there to win and after receiving every chance, he was very plain. He is the best horse in the race. But for me, he’s a risk.
2. Here To Shock: Did a really good job fresh before going to the Memsie when on speed and he tried hard but just felt the pinch late in the piece. Good racing style and his best is clearly good enough to threaten.
3. Pinstriped: Pinstriped is an improver at odds. He had the Blinkers on a few weeks back in the Memsie and he overdid it, leading at a strong tempo and tired late. I think he’ll be better with a bunny to chase, a more patient steer, he can run a much improved race.
4. Airman: SCR
5. Arkansaw Kid: Loved the ride from Shinn to win the Bobbie Lewis last Saturday, finishing best from off speed to score. Lands in a plum spot from the gate and 1400m should be fine. He can threaten for sure.
6. Feroce: Feroce should appreciate a rise in trip for Dom Sutton after resuming over 1100m at Caulfield where he just found them a touch sharp but he kept finding the line and was pretty good late in the piece. Fitter and up in trip, he can run a much improved race.
7. Zarastro: I’ll die on this hill, but T Gollan away from Queensland = pen job.
8. Port Lockroy: Race shape wasn’t really to his liking fresh in the Tramway but did expect more from him. Not for me.
9. Angel Capital: Angel Capital looks to have returned in beast mode and is one of the hardest to beat after a barnstorming return two weeks ago in the Chautauqua where he gave them a start and a beating, producing a brilliant finale to win and win well. Fitter, 1400m, big track, well weighted…gee he’ll take holding out.
10. Damask Rose: Damask Rose was the real eye catcher from the Cockram three weeks back. She was pretty much there for a barrier trial but loved the way she closed her race off behind Magic Time. Fitter and up in trip, good weight relief, she can take this out without surprising.
11. Another Prophet: SCR
12. is it Me: Love him at 1400m…but not at Caulfield. Sneaky flying, but get him to Flemington.
13. Jennilala: Would be a big effort to win first up over an unsuitable trip. Jumpout work suggests she won’t be.
14. Chorlton Lane: Sneaky good return behind Sepals and if there was a head to head market, I’d have a nibble on this guy to turn the tables on Sepals. For wider exotics, he can be entertained.
15. Miss Roumbini: Miss Roumbini has to be given respect for Price/Kent. She was massive first up in the Cockram when three/four wide no cover for the trip and she was entitled to knock right up but she kept on and it took a star mare in Magic Time to nail her. If that hasn’t busted her, gee she appeals against these.
16. Sepals: Way overhyped in betting IMO. Track/distance first up winner but it was a barrier trial and he’s drawn the car park here. If he wins, I am losing.
17. Zou Sensation (First Emergency): Not up to these.

2025 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes Speed Map
Here To Shock will press forward despite being high up in the weights. The other main speed influence is Zarastro, who is a slight query at 1400m but likes to sit near the front. Feroce, Another Wil, maybe even Sepals, can settle forward of midfield.
