Sheza Alibi headlines the field for the Sandown Guineas

One of the key races at Caulfield this Saturday is the Sandown Guineas (1600m), where Sheza Alibi stifles betting.

Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2025 Sandown Guineas.

2025 Sandown Guineas Runner Preview:

1. Call Da Vinci: Call Da Vinci is third up from a spell and should be at peak fitness. He ran in the Carbine Club on Derby Day where he tried to make a sustained run from off speed and just whacked late behind Panova. Getting towards peak fitness and his Winter form is more than good enough to take this out.

2. Burma Star: Burma Star was too good for them in the Amanda Elliott on Cup Day over 1400m, giving them a start and a beating, finishing best to score. I do have a slight query on him at running a strong 1600m but he does have a touch of quality about him.

3. Matahga: He has looked awful in two runs back and might find himself back in Adelaide very soon, or even under the lights at Pakenham. Very much struggling.

4. Kaleo: Kaleo should love the rise to the mile after racing on Cup Day in the Amanda Elliott. He got back to near last in the run and did make up headway but was never really threatening. That said, he did catch the eye in a pretty good effort in defeat. He has the finale to take this out.

5. Tagline: Tried his guts out in the Amanda Elliott but just found Burma Star too good in a driving go. 1600m is the slight query, tricky draw…he can go through to the keeper.

6. Katsumi Orochi: SCR

7. Pictor: Didn’t do a bad job in the Amanda Elliott but just not sure he is up to these.

8. Sulek: Kept chasing and was far from disgraced in the Amanda Elliott but I think he needs to improve too much to trouble them.

9. Centu Cavaddi: Very interesting set up for this guy, over a month between runs. I don’t think he’s good enough.

10. Aitu: Nice horse but suspect he heads to Adelaide, where he looks a good thing over there.

11. Top Reward: Didn’t beat much on debut at Mornington but he sat on speed over 1500m and was very strong to/through the line. If he handles wet ground, I think he’ll run really well.

12. Sheza Alibi: She is the best horse in the race…but she seems very short for a filly who could be in the worst ground nearer the inside and I am not sold on her running out the mile strongly. She can clearly win, but for mine, seems too short.

13. La Reine: Gave them a start and a beating to win her maiden at Warrnambool. Would be hard to beat in a weaker race but think they’re aiming too high here.

2025 Sandown Guineas Speed Map

Can’t see much early speed here, with Top Reward on speed when a debut winner at Mornington. Matahga could settle handy. Outside that, the rest like to settle back.
