The Adelaide Carnival continues on Saturday with the South Australian Derby (2500m) attracting a capacity field.
Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2025 South Australian Derby.
2025 South Australian Derby Runner Preview:
1.Goldrush Guru: After the Australian Guineas, I thought he was going to go right on with it. He’s done the exact opposite and I thought he had every chance in the Chairmans last Saturday. He can win without me.
2.Statuario: Pretty keen on this guy. He comes here off the back of a win in the Galilee Final at Caulfield where he looked a moral on paper and duly saluted, winning quite impressively. He’ll have no issue with the 2500m, he has the right form around him and the depth here, as a whole, is thin.
3.Confetti Garden: Just didn’t handle the back from the Tulloch into the Australian Derby. Prior efforts were sound…couldn’t back him to win but he’s a first four contender at odds.
4.American Wolf: He got a peach ride from Allen to win the VRC St Leger. Trip is no issue, has that sense of timing and gets M Zahra on. In the mix for sure.
5.Saint Emillion: Saint Emillion looks on track for this after his effort in the Chairmans on Saturday. He was keen in the run and lacked any real change up speed but he kept on and was good in defeat I thought behind Athanatos. He was a few weeks between runs there and getting to 2500m now, I say he appeals.
6.Snoopy Now: Unfashionable jockey/trainer combo but he’s humming I think and was a real eye catcher in the Chairmans. I think 2500m is no issue and he’s racing well enough to threaten at a price.
7.Dubai Focus: Game effort near the speed in the Chairmans but I just don’t think he will run out the 2500m and I have others ahead of him. Pass for me.
8.Lavalier: He worked home with real purpose in the Chairmans and despite drawing wide here, I think he’ll go forward. But, he does seem very one paced and for mine, lacks the class. I have him as unders.
9.Politely Dun: SCR
10.Roctave: Progressive Kiwi stayer that is lightly raced, heading in the right direction, but I think his form is crap.
11.Darknconfidential: The trip will be no issue but I don’t think he has the class.
12.Compressing: Plain effort in the Chairmans and for mine, he’s not up to these.
13.Scintillante: I think he is slight overs. He just got way too far out of his ground in the Chairmans and was never a factor. If he can use the gate and settle closer, he’s dangerous.
14.Cavity Bay: I think if she was able to get to the wider lanes, she runs second to Benagil in the Oaks last week. Great ride but was forced back inside. Stable used the Oaks to win the Derby last year with Coco Sun and this girl, for mine, should appreciate 2500m.
15.Femminile: Just fair in the Oaks and for mine, she won’t measure up.
16.Chase Your Dreams: SCR
17.Captain Hilfiger (First Emergency): Plain in the Chairmans and is making up the numbers.
18.Global Eclipse (Second Emergency): He has gained a start and is a definite threat. He beat nothing at Cranbourne last time, but he won by a space, showed good change up speed and was sharp. Form around him reads very well, has that sense of timing…he can win for sure.
19.Gin Rummy (Third Emergency): Nah.

Now he has gained a start, I can see Global Eclipse leading. Goldrush Guru went to the front last week in the Chairmans but does seem better suited with a bunny to chase. Global Eclipse could be his bunny. Statuario should hold a lovely spot from the gate, as should Saint Emillion.
