Consistent is usually not a term used to describe a horse starting at massive odds, however much like jockey Mikayla Weir who has quite a knack of finding the winning post at a hefty price, Deanne Taylor trained Real Finniss has come to life lately, striking at almost 50% of the time in his last 10 starts, his average career winning odds closing in on $50.

It has been quite the journey for the 7-year-old real Saga Gelding, taking 19 starts to break through before another 21 starts between drinks taking almost 2 years. It seems the quirky galloper has quite the personality however and despite limited success in his 47-start career, has apparently turned a page with newfound form, winning 4 of his last 8.

Going on the current funk of win-loss-win-loss, Real Finniss should be in line to win his next start after a 13.2L defeat back on the first of March after saluting at Ballarat in his prior start. In somewhat twisted circumstances however, the massive margin indicates more positive signs than anything else based on recent performances.

Real Finniss broke the lengthy dry spell as a 44-rater in December last year, finding the winning post with a brave front running effort at odds of $201 in a benchmark 58 over 1850m at Terang. His next start led backers to believe he was a one-trick horse however, fading to finish over 13 lengths 10th of 10 in similar class at Kilmore.

In extraordinary circumstances he was a winner in his next start again at Terang paying $16, before being trounced by almost 9 lengths at Ballarat just one start later, and of course again winning after that.

Presently, Real Finniss has climbed the metaphorical ladder in ratings in particular and has gone from a 44 to a 62 in a matter of weeks, aided by a relatively successful partnership with apprentice jockey Lewis German. A serial roughie, Real Finniss has proved to be a valuable asset for punters, also finding place dividends at starting prices of $81 and $31 throughout his career with almost all wins coming with double, if not triple figure odds.

Currently enjoying a well-earned spell, Real Finniss has earned a total of $76,955 in prize money for connections.
