A strong field has been assembled for the Rosehill Gold Cup (2000m) this Saturday at Randwick.

1. Fawkner Park: He has looked like a donkey in both runs back. Can’t entertain him.
2. Bois D’Argent: Similar to Fawkner Park IMO. Not for me.
3. Huetor: Blinkers, Nash… I want to speck him, but he has looked so bad this time in.
4. Maison Louis: Maison Louis has been set for this race and appeals. He ran three weeks ago in the Hill Stakes when off speed and kept chasing with purpose in a good effort in defeat behind the star that is Lindermann. Hard fit, 2000m, no Lindermann… he commands respect.
5. Palmetto: Didn’t do a bad job in the Hill Stakes and potentially gets front end control, where he races best. Dangerous.
6. Wootton Verni: Wootton Verni comes here in form for Chris Waller after taking out the Coongy at Caulfield. He was absolutely trucking in the run before being clicked up into clear air by D Lane and he showed good change up speed, then good fight to fend them off. His confidence is up, he can go on with it.
7. Matusalem: Like the rise in trip for him but think he might have eyes on the Beauford at Newcastle.
8. Redstone Well: Think there is a sneaky good roughie here in Redstone Well. He resumed in the Big Dance Wild Card and just lacked the change up speed, but he was strong to/through the line in a good return. Like him up in trip, good upside… in what is an open race, I think he’s worth a throw at the stumps.
9. Firm Agreement: Reckon he is sneaky flying this horse but like Matusalem, reckon Newcastle is where he’ll come into his own.
10. Imperialist: Impressive winner of the Taree Cup last time, but he beat nothing there. Seems far too short for mine.
11. Our Gold Hope: Was solid without threatening in the Hill Stakes and will need luck but she is capable.
12. Trust In You: Looks better suited in The Beauford.
13. Foujita San: Had excuses in the Coongy but needs to find too much ground.
14. Scarlet Oak: Has looked like a donkey this time in. Not for me.
15. State Of America: State Of America is three weeks between runs since a win at Rosehill where he gave them a start and a beating, producing decent change up speed from off the pace to wear them down and win. Earned a crack at this sort of race, he appeals.
16. Churchill’s Choice: Sneaky going well this girl but the gate makes things very tricky.

Palmetto should get front end control if given an early dig in the ribs. Only second up but suspect Redstone Well will get a beaut run in transit as well from the inside gate. Outside that pair, I can’t see much early tempo.
